As inevitable the recession might seem to be to the economic life of the world, its effects have proved to be more widespread and devastating than we can imagine them to be. Imagine waking up to find firms and industries downsizing their workforce, prices of basic commodities rising by the minute, cost of healthcare being far from affordable, crime rate and insecurity being the only topic of the day due to super high cost of living, and as if not enough, the most important sector of civilization, education becoming so expensive beyond the reach of the modern day small family that tags its future on the little kids dressed in their school uniform hoping that one day they will finish school and get employed with a decent income to bring back home. These forces youth to resort to crude money making methods like selling drugs, prostitution and theft. The Recession is the period when the economic output is decreasing instead of increasing thus having the effect of reducing tax revenues to the government. This Forces the Government to dig deeper into reserves and external borrowing to suffice its expenditure, thus plunging the economy into debts, causing effects such as inflation. Inflation directly boils down to the individual citizen who has to spend more on goods and services as the cost of living escalates. Crime rate has been increasing as a result of the high cost of living brought about by recession. This is as a result of many students resorting to theft and fraud in order to get an extra dollar for their upkeep and tuition fees. This will lead to student living with fear as their property is always at risk of loss and they are afraid of being harmed due to the violence that is associated with stealing. The rise in crime rates will affects the concentration of students as they cannot fully concentrate on their studies because of concern on the security of their property. Crime rate also brings about insecurity around the campus since the affinity of students to steal has risen. This creates an in conducive environment for studying and thus the students grades will drop significantly. Parents are not able to support students effectively because some have lost their jobs due to employers downsizing firms. This will cause a degree in performance of students because low standards of living give the student a hard time and thus they are not able to have concentration in their studies thereby affecting their performance in class. In order to achieve good grades, peace of mind is essential to be able to grasp what is being taught during lectures and personal studies. This is evident by a survey done about the recession and its effects on students, where it reported that one in four students would receive less financial support from their parents or guardians as a result of the recession. A survey done about recession effect on graduate employment shows that many students are scared that they will not be able to get employment when they graduate because of the recession. Students will become extremely demoralized when they work so hard to get perfect grades, only to realize that there are no employment opportunities for them in the job market. This makes some students even drop out if college to start self proprietor businesses in the attempt to make a living. Or in other cases, drop out completely since they cannot be able to pay bills as they no longer participate actively in part time jobs which initially enabled them to pay some or most of their bills like housing and school fees. The tuition fees of most students is funded either by loans from the government or financial institutions. The recession leaves the students stranded with hefty loans because even after finishing college, they are unable to service their education loans since they are unemployed. This no twithstanding, the heavy interest rates that are attached on the loans upon borrowing are attached to this effect. Budget constraints also affect a very sensitive department of student loans and aid. This department focuses on helping students have a smooth education by trying to meet their financial needs, I personally being a beneficiary of this program. Cut backs on this department will force other students out of college and might lead to unrest in college which normally disrupts studies for a while. On the issue of budget cuts or budget constraints as a result of recession, we find that budget constraints affect the college programs, for example; course offering programs and general student activities like sports and extra curricula activities, outreach programs and inter campus programs among others. We find that all these programs might end up competing for funding because of reduced funding due to the budget cuts; hence all of these programs have to consider taking the financial cut backs to coexist and allow the programs to continue even though they can barely start with these minimal funds. The other issue is on the number of classes offered. There are fewer classes offered in college and this makes it difficult for students to meet their intended goals. This leads to students paying very high for tutorials since the college has no more tutoring rooms. Books have in turn become very expensive for normal students to buy. Finally, these effects of recession and budget cutbacks being just the tip of the iceberg, recession and budget cuts heavily affect our studies and general welfare as students here in college, all we ask and pray for is for the government to see into it that at least students are considered as a special group who haven’t fully developed their own wings to fly independently, thus to support us during this harsh times by exempting us from budget cuts and allocating emergency kitties to support us during the recession. Also, to see into the issue of unemployment such that fresh graduates are absorbed directly into the employment category swiftly to at least enable us to clear the heavy education loans that are pegged to our certificates. This at least will give us a chance to not only start our own lives, but to support our young ones at home and our families who have put a lot of effort in our education to see us succeed in the future. A 5-Step Guide to Revising Your Writing When writing a paper, getting your thoughts collected, organized and onto paper is the first major hurdle. This alone is enough to send some students into a panic as they feel the pressure is on to churn out a final draft on their first try. The truth is that the first draft of your paper should be little more than an extended stream of consciousness on which you can build, tweak and finally produce your masterpiece. Revising your paper doesnt have to be difficult, though. Heres well give you a 5 step road map to revising that rough draft into the literary masterpiece you know it can be. Step 1: Just Write! The first step is to just get your thoughts down onto paper. Many times, this is one of the hardest steps since staring at a blank page can be intimidating for even the most seasoned writers. To get the ball rolling, begin by setting up a loose outline of what you want to write. Even if your rough draft outline begins with just vague ideas, questions to yourself and off topic tangents, it doesnt matter. This is simply meant to give you a framework on which to build. Bulk out your outline with quotes, statistics and other facts to act as touchstones throughout the paper. As you copy and paste facts, figures or relevant quotes, be sure youre keeping all sources in a separate document. For now, dont worry about formatting, spelling, grammar or even lucidity. This draft should be more cohesive and you can consider it your Working Draft. You may still go off on unrelated tangents and theres still no need to worry about spelling or grammar. You should, however, focus on tying arguments into your main point. You can help this process by identifying your papers main point establishing the point of the paper (to inform, argue, defend, etc) write your thesis statement (highlight this or put it in bold so you can find it easily as you continue to write) make sure each paragraph has a topic sentence and evidence or support directly connected to it get rid of off topic sections (if you think they could come in useful later, save them to a different file) This will help you bring the paper together and, by now, it should start reading more fluently. Read through it a second time and continue to cut the fat until it reads well and doesnt have a lot of superfluous information that could distract readers. Step 3: Read it Like a Reader The best way to check this step off the list is to sleep on it. Once you have a working draft, save everything and then dont look at it again for at least a day. Then, sit down and read it with your reader in mind. Consider the arguments they may come up with against your point or how they may interpret some of your conclusions. Look for any spots of fuzzy logic and begin to highlight and fix any problems in structure, grammar, spelling or in the way the paper flows. If you find sections jumping around too much, use transition paragraphs to help make it easier to follow. Move around paragraphs or entire sections if thats what it takes to make the paper easier to follow for readers. Step 4: Read it Out Loud Reading through your paper out loud engages your hearing which can help you identify misplaced punctuation and also helps to engage other parts of your brain which can boost creativity. Read from a hard copy so that you can easily make notes as you go through the paper. You can also record your reading so that you can just make verbal notes which may help since you wont have to stop and write things down. You can also highlight clunky areas on your hard copy to come back and rework later. Step 5: Get Critical Now is the time to read through your paper with a truly critical eye. Once youve added your notes from your final reading and tightened up the paper, its time to read it like you want to find something wrong. Get as critical as you can and highlight any areas that dont read well or which seem confusing. You should have some idea of what your instructor wants as well as what they are likely to focus on. Does this professor love shooting holes in a students argument? Look for any tiny loophole and address it in the relevant section. Or maybe its a professor who looks for errors in formatting, bibliography or footnotes. Tweak the paper with the reader in mind in order to deliver a perfectly tailored paper.

There is a push in Washington for more federal dollars in adult training. They believe the  return on investment (ROI) from adult education and training is positive as billions of dollars could be earned, saved, and pumped back into the struggling economy (Gonzalez, 2011). The argument at capital is that adult education actually saves governments money by reducing societal healthcare, public assistance, and incarceration costs. It also improves and expands the nation’s available pool of workers by helping motivated, but undereducated people get jobs (Gonzalez, 2011). The theory of adult learning is the assumptions about how adults learn. Emphasizes the value of the process of learning in adults (Adult Learning Theory, 2007). Malcom Knowles and American practitioner and theorist of adult education defined is as an art and science of helping adults learn (Adult Learning Theory, 2007). Knowles also defined six adult learning principles as adults are internally motivated and self-directed, adults bring life experiences and knowledge to learning experiences and are goal orientated. They also relevancy oriented and are practical learners who like to be respected when in the classroom (Adult Learning Theory, 2007). Investing in adult education is also important for families, communities and our country as a whole. Education is an important first step for some adult learners as it is a second chance in learning. There beautiful and perfect lives. All the children were given the finest educations by the most brilliant adults; whom were smarter than Leonardo DaVinci and Albert Einstein would ever fathom to be. The streets were made of pure diamond and the lampposts of ivory. The cars never used any energy and never depreciated. They had plush seating made of soft leather. Every home was built according to the family, but every home was very large and spacious. They contained the finest furniture and the finest robotic staff that never became tired and always completed every demand made by their masters.

How Is Evil Portrayed In Macbeth

In this essay I shall be looking at the way evil is portrayed in Shakespeares play, Macbeth. I will be concentrating on the characters in the play that contribute to the evil themes of the play. It is clear from the start of the play that the witches are the main source of evil. The witches have an enormous effect on the play, not only are they evil, but this is emphasised by the strong feelings against witches and witchcraft in Elizabethan times. Convicted witches were regularly tortured and even executed. Most people believed in witches and there was little opposition against this persecution. This was not helped by the fact hat the king, James 1 was also interested in this superstition, often, he interrogated the accused himself. It is clear from the start of the play that the witches play a key role. The first scene is the witches planning to meet Macbeth. The setting of this scene is very important; they meet on a moor in thunder and lightning. These surroundings portray an evil image; the moor is a very lonely, barren and bleak place, while thunder and lightning associate with evil. So even at the beginning of the play one of the themes is known. The witches language includes rhyming couplets that contradict each other and are very powerful. Fair is foul, and foul is fair: Hover through the fog and filthy air This quote tells us about the witches hatred for all things good, and their love for things that are evil. Shakespeare adds rhyme and rhythm to the witches language to emphasise their evilness. The second part of this quote adds to their image of being witches and would have created tension among Elizabethan audiences. The image of old women with cats and the ability to fly would have shocked an audience. The first meeting between Macbeth and the witches is significant as they make two predictions to Macbeth, Hail to thee hane of Cawdor and perhaps more significantly, That shalt be king hereafter. These proclamations astound Macbeth due to their sudden nature. The witches lure Macbeth into a false sense of security. The witches manipulate Macbeth and when he tells Lady Macbeth of the predictions, an evil plan is conceived. Ive done the deed. This deed is the worst possible crime, kingship; Macbeth has murdered king Duncan in cold blood. Macbeth, the brave warrior at the beginning of the play has been driven by his ambition to be king. However, the source of this evil deed may not have come from Macbeth himself. Look like the innocent flower, But be the serpent undert. Lady Macbeth plants the seed of murdering king Duncan in Macbeths mind. The language Shakespeare uses here is significant, the flower is associated with beauty and goodness while the snake is associated with evil. The association with a snake would have been especially strong because in the bible the serpent is seen as an evil being. These comparisons to bible characters would also have shocked Elizabethan audiences, as they believed in heaven and hell. Perhaps the most famous scene in Macbeth concerns the witches and especially their language. Liver of blaspheming Jew, Finger of birth-strangled babe. These disgusting images are the ingredients of the witches spell. The language used shows the exploitation of innocence and vulnerability by the witches and this links in with the theme of the desire to bring all good things to evil. The imagery conjured up in the casts is one of pure evil. In the same scene the witches manipulate Macbeth by using three apparitions. The second of these apparitions lulls Macbeth into a false sense of security. Then live, Macduff: what need I fear of thee. The apparition, which is a bloody child, tells Macbeth of his fortune, For none of woman born shall harm Macbeth. Shakespeare uses Dramatic Irony as these words confuse Macbeth. It is apparent from these words that Macbeth would feel invincible and that no man could harm him. However, Macbeth fails to see the contradiction between this and the first apparition. This is because Macbeth is unaware of Macduffs birth; he was born after his mother had died. It is only at the end of the play that Macbeth finally discovers his fate. After being told that Macduff had been, Untimely ripped from his mothers womb, describes the witches as Juggling Fiends. Macbeth is accusing the witches of deliberately juggling their words so that he could not understand them. This is a brilliant quote as Macbeth has just realised his life is in ruins, but the audience knew this earlier. The witches have changed Macbeth from a brave warrior to an evil, murderous, traitor. By the pricking of my thumbs, something wicked this way comes. This quote is significant as it illustrates the change in Macbeth throughout the play, now even the witches consider Macbeth to be evil. However, when looking at the path of destruction that Macbeth has left ehind him it isnt very surprising. Just one man driven by his ambition to be king has led to a chain reaction of murders Stars, hide your fires! Let not light see my black and desires! From this quote we can see Macbeths true feelings towards king Duncan. It tells us that no one will see the murder due to the darkness and lack of light. His dark intentions have imagery due the blackness of the night and evil desires and intentions of Macbeth. The murder of his once best friend, Banquo leads to Lady Macbeth going mad. The brains behind the relationship who conceived the plan of murdering ing Duncan which started the chaos of the whole play eventually commits suicide as she couldnt handle the guilt. Heres the smell of the blood still: all the perfumes of Arabia will not sweeten this little hand. This is a significant quote as although Lady Macbeth did not kill king Duncan it was her idea, and it could be argued that Macbeth wouldnt have murdered king Duncan without the influence of Lady Macbeth. The fear of the Scottish people is shown in a conversation between Donalbain and Malcolm. Theres daggers in mens smiles. This metaphor describes how Donalbain feels he can rust nobody and that everyone is putting on disguises; underneath the smiling faces is hatred and evil. The imagery conjures up pictures of the innocent and pleasant man on the outside but on the inside he is a traitor and a murderer. The quote portrays the scenes of anarchy and chaos in Scotland. In conclusion I think it is clear the witches mostly portray evil in Macbeth. Not only are the witches evil themselves but their evilness spreads to other characters throughout the play. I think there is little doubt that without the influence of the witches, Macbeth wouldnt have murdered king Duncan.
